What’s in the “evidence locker” at your favorite local law enforcement agency? What is an “evidence locke” you ask? Well, when a crime is committed the investigating agency gathers evidence. Now surely you’ve seen CSI and all that on TV! Most of the stuff is not nearly as interesting as what you see on the “tube.”
But there is a lot of it, and it has to be catalogued, stored, retrieved for trial, or … and that’s where this story comes in … or eventually disposed of. Whether there is a trial or no suspect was even determined, the evidence gets disposed of. Drugs get burned, guns get mangled and melted, some items get returned to the owner (no, the drug dealers do NOT get their drugs back), and some “stuff” just gets tossed.
What sort of stuff, you ask? You ARE getting curious are you not? Some interesting examples:

- Fictitious license plates
- Terrorist’s handbook
- Rock with paint from cliff
- Stick of deodorant
- Broken handle steak knife
- Brown bag of trash from under bridge (don’t you know THAT was fun!)

- One black shoe (waiting for the other shoe to drop?)
Yes, those are for real. Not exactly what you see them gather on CSI: NY. I ran across those, among others less interesting, while signing orders authorizing the destruction, return or forfeiture of evidence no longer needed. Makes you appreciate evidence custodians more, eh?
